Who: Lucy + Branwen
What: Serious best friend time
When: Wednesday evening, following Branwen's journal entry
Where: Ravenclaw Common Room
Rating/Warning: PG, I'm sure

Although the two girls lived in the same dorm, Lucy couldn't remember the last time she had really hung out with Branwen. She wasn't sure what was to blame, either. They were both incredibly busy with school work and now that Lucy was studying with McGonagall and the rest of the study group, she found her free time was much more limited now. Of course, there was that matter of Nikolas. But, she didn't see Nikolas as much as she'd really like, either.

Rifling in the bottom of her trunk, Lucy dug out the bag of sweets Roger had given her during the last Hogsmeade weekend and looped the string around her wrist. Before slipping on a pair of her favorite slippers, she made sure to tie up her journal and tuck it underneath the pillow on her bed.

Moments later, she was going down the stairs, the bag of sweets banging against her hip with every step.

Branwen was sitting comfortably in one of the many blue armchairs, and had her journal out, reading Penelope Clearwater's in-depth analysis of the Daily Prophet article, but she snapped it shut when Lucy arrived. There was plenty of time for worrying about that, and she had no doubt that she would - now it was time for relaxing with her best friend. And sweets.

She smiled brightly. "It's good to see you! It feels like it's been forever, and that's not a good thing." She gestured at the nearest armchair, which was fortunately unoccupied.

As Lucy spotted Branwen near the fireplace, a broad smile appeared on her face. It was strange to be so excited to see someone that you not only lived with but attended classes on the regular. She gave the other girl a short wave, an idle gesture as Lucy closed the distance between them rather quickly. She dropped the bag of sweets on the floor inbetween the two chairs before plopping herself down into the nearest one- the one Branwen pointed out.

"Hello yourself," she greeted with a small laugh before curling her legs up underneath her frame and making herself comfortable. "I was just thinking the same thing. How is it we've barely been around these past few weeks?"

As Lucy sat, Branwen reached out to the bag of sweets taking one. As she unwrapped it, crinkling, she replied, "I don't know. Perhaps it's one of those great mysteries of life that when you would most like to see someone, or when you should by all rights see them frequently, that it is somehow virtually impossible to do so." She laughed lightly, and added, "I think that's probably one of Murphy's many Laws."

She popped the candy into her mouth, and simply savoured the sweetness.

"Bugger that," Lucy said, before reaching down to fish out a chocolate frog from the bag. She made a small mental note to send a thank you to Roger.

She leaned back into the plushy cushions as she unwrapped the tinfoil. Carefully, of course, as she was not in the mood to run about the Common Room for a chocolate. She looked back toward Branwen, thinking of all the things she had wanted to tell her best friend. There was a bit of a list, at the moment. But at the same time, she really wanted to know how Branwen had been doing.

"So, I suppose we ought to fill each other in, yeah? What's been going on with you?"

Branwen nodded. "Mostly, I've been doing the same as usual. Going to classes, eating meals, a bit more studying, certainly more Potions, and trying to distract myself from a lot of the rest of it." She paused for a moment to think if she was missing anything, but she didn't recall. She had made herself thoroughly busy, without really doing much. She shrugged - "that's about it."

"You must have had a better time of it though," she said positively.

Lucy took a chuck out of the frog's shape and she chewed on it thoughtfully as she listened to Branwen. She half-hoped that there was something else Branwen wanted to talk about, if only so that Lucy didn't feel as if she was about to start hogging the conversation. She swallowed, quite happy with having a bit of chocolate running through her as she smiled a teethless smile in return.

"It's been a bit interesting lately," she admitted, shaking her head. "Things with Nikolas have gone from good to bad to slightly alright and now things are really great, honestly. I'm not even sure how it all happened. He met Roger this weekend..."

She trailed off, tilting her head to the side.

"Merlin, that was a bloody mess."

Branwen smiled back at Lucy, before reaching down to pick up another Chocolate Frog. As she picked at the tinfoil slowly, she listened, a slightly worried expression settling on her face at Lucy's expression. "I hope a figurative one and not a literal one! It must have been..." she paused to think before finishing, a slight smile accompanying it, "interesting."

"Although, I'm impressed you're even brave enough to leave the castle, really, considering all of..." Trailing off, she gestured vaguely to give a sense of the everything that she had all but promised herself she wouldn't mention. She sighed dejectedly. "Why does everything come back to that?"

She frowned slightly. It hadn't been quite so disastrous, really. Though, she hadn't exactly been able to properly talk to Roger since the lunch. Lucy thought of the next time in which she could when Branwen's words distracted her. She frowned even more deeply.

"It's inescapable isn't it?" she asked her best friend, her shoulders sagging slightly. "I've honestly been feeling so cramped here, lately. Any chance to leave has been something I can't pass up."
