This morning the Ministry of Magic released the latest in a series of public notices outlining their ongoing efforts to heighten the safety standards of the Wizarding World.
While the list of changes is quite lengthy, and in large part simply emphasizes the enforcement of already existing laws, there were a number of changes that may see upstanding citizens sleeping a bit easier in their beds at night.
As the blatant and purposeful recent attacks against long-time Gringott's patrons shows, the Wizarding World has long been too dependent on Goblins. "They're not wizards, they're dangerous creatures," Dolores Umbridge, spokeswoman for the Ministry, told us earnestly. "Just because they possess some useful skills doesn't mean we should let them run riot. The previous administration's loose policies on dark creatures clearly led to them ignoring the goblins' long history of war and violence. We're only lucky that the current Wizengamut and Minister for Magic has a clearer view of the situation, and that action has been taken before greater problems arose."
In perhaps the most drastic, and necessary, measure of the new edicts, all goblins will be removed from positions of authority at Gringott's, and all associated banks. While some who have proven their loyalty may remain in simpler jobs that are more suited to their nature, the majority of Gringott's positions will now be filled by wizards of competent abilities and social standing. While a new Head of Gringott's has yet to be named, those facilitating the change urge customers to be patient, as it may take some time to iron out the kinks. "We're already finding a great many instances of goblins abusing their positions, and only expect to find more," an anonymous insider tells the Prophet. "It's astonishing what they've been allowed to get away with."
In addition to the drastic changes at Gringott's, the Ministry goes on to outline stronger enforcement against other dangerous creatures, such as centaurs, hags, and werewolves. "We're particularly focusing on werewolf ordinances," Umbridge stated. "These dark creatures are one of the more insidious of menaces, since they can spend a great deal of time appearing to be normal citizens and hiding their monstrous nature. The first stage of our werewolf laws will be a mandatory registration. Those failing to volunteer for registration will be brought in, and evaluated on a case by case basis for their danger to society. Those registered will wear visual, easily identified proof of their lycanthropy, so that normal citizens may more easily avoid them, and the danger they represent. Those deemed irredeemable menaces to society will be held by the Ministry under humane conditions until such time as a more permanent solution can be found."
Along with the Ministry's decrees, several pamphlets have been written by Ministry scholars and released to the public outlining several formerly hidden facts about the dangers of werewolves and other dark creatures, and the hazards they pose, even outside of a full moon. The Ministry, and the Prophet, urge all witches and wizards to read through these pamphlets and educate themselves. The ministry also urge concerned citizens to report any neighbors and associates that they suspect might be dark creatures masquerading as normal citizens. Those who aid the Ministry in the apprehension of these creatures may be eligible for rewards.
The Daily Prophet wishes the Ministry luck in their endeavors, and is grateful for their dedication to public safety.
