Break Time WHO Kara Choi OT Carter Reynolds WHAT Lunch with the BFF WHERE Reynolds' Home WHEN Wednesday, July 27, 2016 around noon WARNINGS None
Life was changing, but there were still some things in the world that were constant. For Kara, her friendship with Carter Reynolds was one of those things. As crazy and as painful and as uncertain as other things seemed right now, Carter was a source of reassurance and peace for the witch. It wasn't that he was unchanging, although she knew that he sometimes felt trapped in his own circumstances. It was simply that there had always been a Carter-shaped presence in her life, and she'd never had a reason to doubt that there always would be. She needed that now, even more than usual. Loss wasn't something easily dealt with by the witch, and even though Jake McKenna was still holding on, the longer his family suffered, the more it stirred up old wounds within her.
After sending off a text to make sure her friend would be home, Kara had taken an early lunch and had stopped by Joe's to pick up a couple of burgers, fries, and two world-class (if not world famous) milkshakes before driving out to the Reynolds' home. She knocked when she got there, but she didn't wait before entering. The door was often unlocked, though she had a key for emergencies. She'd noticed Jax had started to take more precautions since Cassie had come to town with two very beautiful surprises, but the girls weren't at the house this afternoon. Considering the family, Kara figured only an idiot would try to break into the Reynolds' home or enter uninvited.
"Break time!" she called up the stairs as she made her way through the den and down the hall toward the kitchen. She wasn't sure Carter was up there working, but figured it didn't hurt to let him know that she'd let herself in. If he was lost in a world of design, the smell of grilled meat and fried potatoes would probably lure him down eventually, so she retrieved a couple of plates from the cabinet next to the fridge and started to set the table at the breakfast nook. Take-out was no excuse to be uncivilized.
