If Seth wasn’t a Knight, he might have made that stereotypical ‘and humble too’ sort of retort, but Knights owned their virtues and Seth didn’t mind the Thornes doing the same. “Yeah,” Seth agreed. “Between all the different kinds of brilliance and beauty, I’d say that’s true.” He meant it.
On paper, Seth had known that Alex wasn’t an obvious match for Knight. Even before he’d announced his engagement, he’d known there were relatives that he’d have to hard sell. Before she broke things off with Gabe, Abbie had chosen the blue-blooded fine-tasted pedigree fiance that the family would have expected. Seth’s choice was an Indian-American woman with a poor background and a family whose notoriety stemmed from a criminal patriarch currently serving time.
But Alexandria was intelligent. Genius even. Ambitious and driven. She wasn’t afraid to work hard and she had an unmatched passion for her pursuits. In the areas that encompassed what Knight was, Alex was unrivaled. In the others….Seth couldn’t give voice to it, but he thought she was better.
In respect to spouse choosing, so far even now, Seth still thought he’d won.
Look at them now, sitting awkwardly in this sandwich shoppe. All their issues between them and Alex still came through when he needed her.
He nodded glad to think Alex would be at the hospital and sending him updates about Abbie’s condition. “It’s hard to say with the extent of her injuries. Probably at least until Sunday.” They healed faster than humans, but it wasn’t action movie superpower fast and with everything else...the pregnancy. Seth shook his head. “I’d ask Rachel. She’d have a better idea.”
He reached over and squeezed Alex’s hand. “Thank you,” he said.
