Relief flooded her at seeing the words Be there soon. It was always nice to know that Rebecca could count on Hadley to be there when she was needed, particularly since poor Evan McKenna and his family were currently experiencing a family crisis of their own. Granted, pregnancy wasn't exactly a crisis per se… Just Rebecca's fear of the unknown.
A moment passed in silence as she continued to sit on the toilet, metaphorically twiddling her thumbs until she couldn't stand it anymore.
"Oh, this is ridiculous!" She muttered aloud and got up to occupy herself until Hadley arrived. There were clean dishes waiting to be put away, dirty ones waiting to be rinsed and put into the now empty dishwasher, and the ones that couldn't be put into the machine were washed, dried, and put away. Rebecca was just about finished wiping down the counters when she heard the apartment door open and close and her sister call out.
The action of doing something other than sitting and thinking had started to calm her nerves. Rebecca had even started admonishing herself that she was being ridiculous, but as soon as Hadley asked where she was and she poked her out from the kitchen, her nervousness and fear bubbled up again.
"Here!" She called out while taking a step into the living room, an excited smile spread across her face.
"Sooo..." Rebecca began, trying to maintain her excitement, but her smile faltered into the nervous emotion she felt as she stepped further into the living room, "I have a surprise?" She quickly added, "Which I am excited about, don't get me wrong! I mean, it was inevitable. Killian and I love each other, but we weren't serious about trying or anything mainly because I've been avoiding the subject. Well, a serious talk about it because you know... our family. And we're related to Ashley and we know her father's side of the family is into some really dark stuff. I mean, what if they turn out like them?"
By this time, Rebecca knew she was babbling and rambling and had gotten wildly off-track of how she wanted to introduce the subject. But, this was entirely new territory for her so it wasn't like she had the experience of a previous pregnancy to draw inspiration from.
