Cat and Mouse WHO Fredericka Holt OT Raj Thorne WHAT Raj witnesses Fredericka having a midnight snack. For some reason he finds this suspicious. IDK. WHERE Cedar Falls WHEN June 21st 12:25 A.M. WARNINGS Blood drinking. But nothing graphic. It's like she just kissed his neck really, depending on the angle you looked at it. >.>
There were some people that Fredericka wanted to bite because she didn't like them all that much and just wanted to cause them pain. Then there were other people that Fredericka wanted to bite because she did like them. Kevin Lauritz, the man who's apartment Fredericka was standing in, and who she was about to lean in and sink her fangs into, tended to tow both sides of the line.
This was probably the last time that Fredericka and Kevin Lauritz were going to have a dinner date like this. If Fredericka wasn't so occupied, she might have taken an extra moment to reminisce.
The evening started when Fredericka got home from work. It was a particular busy week. Fredericka spent half an hour of her date prep time collapsed across her bed.
Kevin had made plans for Fredericka to arrive at his place at eleven. She'd gotten back from home from the office around eight. Fredericka was drinking fresh blood later, so she didn't bother fixing up a bag, but that had only given her longer to stare into her closet like it had chewed and swallowed any good date outfit that Fredericka might have had. Normally, Fredericka might have gone to Abbie then, but even if this was just a standard blood agreement rather than a standard romance, Fredericka didn't want to talk about a dinner date with Abigail while Abbie was navigating a love life that could have made Ben Franklin say Oy.
Not that Fredericka's love life was better. She'd pick a tumultuous love triangle over someone who was mostly just looking for a rent discount any day.
Overall, Fredericka Holt did not participate in Whitby's blood scheme very often. Fresh blood directly from the host provided the most nutrition and satisfaction for a vampire, but for Fredericka the experience was marred by the moments before and after. Despite wanting to bite a great many people, Fredericka actually tried to be quite selective. She didn't like the way it felt to bite into a stranger or acquaintance. Wrists weren't as bad, but the neck felt savage. It made her feel like she was one with the brutes that kidnapped her when she was a child. Fredericka did not chase that feeling. Before she drank right from the source, Fredericka liked to know whose blood she was drinking. Her vampiric instincts made Fredericka thrill in and crave the hunt, but having a connection made something savage feel more sophisticated.
Which was exactly how the Kevin thing got started, and exactly how Fredericka had come to like it, up until he'd decided he'd outgrown her and had decided to end things, although if she wanted to create a two month arrangement he'd be obliged. Fredericka understood to an extent, even if she hadn't liked his execution. But she also felt that biting him was an appropriate response.
If things weren't in so much chaos at home right now, Fredericka might have declined tonight anyway. But with everything going on, Fredericka thought she needed to stay sharp.
Narrowing her outfit choices to five took Fredericka until nine-thirty. Shortly after that, she showed up at Elise's apartment for help. Elise lived near Kevin, and she'd actually been nineteen recently. She was also very good at doing eyeliner the way that Fredericka liked, and finding the line between an outfit that screamed 'I'm going to drink your blood' and one that said 'If I did drink your blood, you'd be okay with it because I'm in this dress.' Fredericka wasn't done at Elise's until 11:25, but Fredericka was pleased with the result and thought that Kevin would think it was worth the wait.
Kevin and Fredericka had a drink together first. Just enough small talk to reaffirm to Fredericka that even if he tasted what sunshine must have felt like, she was going to leave him something to miss after tonight. He put on music and they danced for a little while for the fun of it. The dancing took them into the kitchen. He kissed her, and Fredericka kissed him back. He pressed her back against the refrigerator, and Fredericka pressed her fangs into his neck.
And that was the moment that Fredericka realized the blinds were open. And out of the corner of her eyes, she saw Alex's brother looking right at them from the window across.
Fredericka wrapped an arm around Kevin's neck to obstruct the view, and then pulled Kevin down to the ground.
A few minutes later, she was standing outside of Rajesh Thorne's apartment at Cedar Falls. Fredericka knocked on the door.
“Hi. You're Alex's brother, yes?” Fredericka breathed. She smoothed her mussed hair. “Things in there got a little too hot and heavy too fast.” She looked back behind and around her like she was afraid Kevin might follow. “Do you mind if I come in here for awhile?”
She needed to figure out how much damage had been done here.
