When Cassie worked as a reporter in Seattle, she'd spent quite a bit of time interviewing professional chefs in their kitchens, but few were as impressive or well kept as Nadia's. Cassie breathed in the smell of the chopped vegetables while she smiled wide at her friend. Cassie was careful to stick close to Mira, because she sensed the woman needed extra support and encouragement.
“I am very glad too,” Cassie said. “I have so been looking forward to tonight and some bonding.”
Cassie put a piece of the cheese from the charcuterie board into her mouth and mmmed with pleasure. “You must try this,” she told Mira, and offered her a piece. Between this and all of the prep work Nadia had done, Cassie did not know that they even really needed to work tonight.
Once she had sampled a few things, Cassie took her wine, and Mira, and moved toward the soup station.
“If we burn the place down, I will help you build another.” If Jackson and Cassie were still together, she would have jokingly offered Nadia the coffee shop. Not that Cassie was thinking about the two of them together. Once Nadia was finished greeting Alex, Cassie embraced her sister. “How are you?”
It had been a very tough month for Alex, and Cassie was very concerned, but she seemed to be in better spirits today. She turned to Nadia and Mira. “Alex has a party tomorrow at the Knight estate.” Her focus turned to Nadia, curious. “Do you cater those?” Cassie knew that the Knights often employed Nadia to cook for them.
