One More Rung on the Ladder WHO Luke (Lux-Eron) OT Xander Kingston WHAT Lux and Xander meet where he's offered the possibility of a better job? WHERE Kingston Tech WHEN Wednesday, July 6th, 2016 ~11:57am WARNINGS TBD
It was fascinating that even on this world, what a difference five degrees could make. Construction was nearly done on the Kingston Tech campus, but Lux was only a recent addition and he'd gotten lucky obtaining this job; One of the crew members had gotten injured and the foreman needed someone stat. Enter Lux who had proven his skill and ability to learn fast and a bargain was struck given that the phoenix didn't exactly have a true identity… And he kept his head down in order to keep it that way, particularly have the fiasco of his introduction to "Nadia." He still had difficulty coming to terms with the fact that Solara had absolutely no idea who he was. It still hurt and an ache entered his chest every time he thought about her that he was grateful for the job he'd gotten as a member of the construction crew.
Lux threw himself into the job despite his attempts to fly under the radar, he still got noticed because of his efficiency and ability to go the distance. That was something he couldn't help being what he was; His endurance would always be better than the mortals around him. However, even he strained under the humidity of the day as he wiped sweat off his brow. A co-worker had told him not long ago that it was only 79 out, yet the clouds in the sky and the threat of rain made it feel like 84. His people came from an area in their world that was a dry heat, not this wetness that weighed on the lungs. So when it came close to Noon and his break, he was grateful to find a spot of shade to eat.
Pondering while taking a refreshing sip of water, Lux admitted that his mission with Solara had obvious kinks in it, he had been blessed in other ways since arriving to Willow Creek. He'd met some good people, among which were April and the vampire, Levi, who had offered him a place to stay at Summerland for a reasonable rate which included three meals a day for extra, which Lux paid for by working at the hotel. Yet, whenever he sat idly, his thoughts always turned to Lara—Nadia—and he frowned. It had been four months since he arrived and Lux was still clueless how to handle the situation. Given the protective nature of "Nadia's" staff, Lux had avoided returning to the restaurant and distant observation was getting him nowhere. The only thing left within Lux's power was to buck up the courage to approach her again, but the sting of not being recognized still lingered and Lux wasn't sure he could handle the inadvertent rejection again. Lux heaved a weary sigh and upended the last of his water over his head and sat there to wallow a few more minutes before throwing himself back into work.
