“With vampires,” Jake said, “I think you get more seedy ones mostly because, 1. vampires have a lot of power, and the more power you've got, the easier it is to be corrupted, and 2. vampires live a long time, and the longer you live, the more chances you have to make bad choices that will impact the person you are until eventually turn you into a seedy vampire. But that doesn't mean the seedy vampires don't have a choice. They're choosing to be seedy and they could choose to stop being seedy.”
“But I wouldn't worry about it too much,” Jake told her, “Because in giving everybody the choice to do whatever they want, that means there's a lot of stuff that's unfair in this life, but God's going to make all the unfair stuff fair. That's the whole point of the Jesus stuff. As long as you want it, he makes up the difference for everybody, including vampires. So, Jesse will go to the special hell reserved for guys who murder innocent girls for the hell of it. And you can have your eternal salvation.”
Jake shrugged. “That's what I think anyway.” He paused, before he turned to her again. “I don't know how vampires or shifters were made originally. Some evil witch is just my best guess.” Or fairy. Whatever. One of those.
He was quiet for a long while after that. “I like the sound of these waves,” he said. Jake looked over at her. “Maybe we should just stay here for awhile.”
