The prince understood all too well that feeling that all relationships were fleeting. He'd had his fair share of them. He'd let himself get close to a handful of chosen humans over the centuries, but those were relationships that always came with an expiration date. It wasn't something that made him regret his time spent with them, but it was a bittersweet feeling.
Even though he'd been making an effort to get to know the people in town, to attend their functions and celebratory gatherings, most of it was for the benefit of Kingston Tech. There were still those who resented the company's location and the inconvenience of the construction going on. He still believed that once the campus was complete and open to the public, that the last of the naysayers would eventually come around and see the benefits it offered, but he wasn't above greasing the wheels — so to speak — by showing off his Nice Guy image in public.
That wasn't to say it was all an act. There had been a few people he'd met thus far who'd really made an impression on him. Xander figured the same would do well for Emma. He'd known her long enough to understand that she wasn't going to become a party animal overnight, and he appreciated that, given her role in the company. He just worried sometimes that she might be...lonely. Of course, she had open access to the pleasure of his companionship, but he wasn't sure that was enough for her in the long run. Even if they had had their fair share of pleasurable moments.
"You can tell me not to worry, but that doesn't mean I won't," he said finally, happy enough to see her smile. "You don't have to have a pack mentality to go out and socialize every now and then, Emmy. Especially when it's not a required work function." He gave a short huff of laughter and shook his head. "That's your other assignment. I want at least one selfie of you out having fun while you're in London."
