Afternoon Delight WHO Cole Sinclair OT Open WHAT Nothing to see here, folks, just a demon enjoying a holiday. WHERE Main Street WHEN Monday, 12.21.15 ~2:30pm WARNINGS TBD
With only four days until Christmas, the town of Willow Creek was brimming with holiday cheer. The streets were bedecked in garland and twinkle lights. School was out until after the New Year. It had been snowing off and on for the last couple of weeks. All in all, there was a festive, joyful snap in the air, and that probably should have annoyed one who was classified as a demon, but Cole wasn't involved in all of that fire-and-brimstone mumbo jumbo. His kind sprang from a different Hell dimension altogether, and was only considered such because it was filled with creatures such as himself: the kind with a penchant for feeding off of humanity for the sake of survival.
And because it was fun.
While he didn't celebrate the holidays in any specific manner - certainly nothing with any particular religious overtones - he'd long ago realized that getting into the "holiday spirit" was just one more way to blend in with those around him. Maybe he could admit that there was some appeal to all the over-the-top decorations and cheer. After all, he'd chosen to spend Christmas in this small town in the Pacific Northwest, instead of lounging on a beach somewhere in the middle of nowhere, soaking up the sun and enjoying the scantily clad women. Of course, the holidays had a way of making people both joyous and melancholy, and he'd found that when it came to single women, location didn't matter much. The hotter the lady, the more determined she was to find a holiday companion before midnight on New Year's.
Filming on his latest project had wrapped in Toronto until after the beginning of the year. Jennifer had invited him to spend Christmas with her in Aspen, but he'd declined. She was on the verge of getting too attached, and they'd be done shooting pretty soon. He'd been upfront with her, as he was with all of his leading ladies, that he didn't do committed relationships. They rarely heeded his warnings, not that he could blame them. It was simply the addictive side effect of what he was. It would just be better to end things with her sooner rather than later.
He'd ultimately decided on Willow Creek because he hadn't visited in a while and it had seemed like it would be just the place to make sure his holiday break was nice and quiet. Well, quiet-ish. He certainly didn't want to be bored while he was here. His apartment had been just as he'd left it almost eight months ago, but it should be since he paid a woman to go in once a week and clean everything. Cleanliness, for all they said it was next to Godliness, was one of his pet peeves. The idea of walking into a dirty apartment, even if it was just an accumulation of dust, was unacceptable.
In fact, the maid had arrived about an hour earlier, and Cole had quickly vacated the premises. He preferred not to be a distraction, nor did he feel inclined to make small talk with her while she worked. Instead, he'd decided to check out the main drag. The shops that lined the street were still hawking their holiday sales and displays, and after stopping in at Deja Brew to pick up a white chocolate peppermint mocha, he'd decided to do a bit of window shopping. His assistant back in L.A. had selected all of his necessary gifts for friends and associates back in October, and had arranged for their timely delivery this week. There was no one he personally did any Christmas shopping for, other than himself, and aside from someone to warm his bed, Cole wasn't sure what else he absolutely needed while he was here in Willow Creek. Therefore, his pace was quite leisurely as he walked along the sidewalk, sipping his coffee, and taking in the sights each shop had to offer.
