She knew Niko would do it, but she would never be so unappreciative of his help that she would not ask, and just assume. It wasn't like Emily to be unappreciative of things. She had always been a grateful sort of person. Her sight had been taken from her so she could have this beautiful gift, and she never once questioned why it had happened. She had always, always been thankful for the hand life had dealt her. As she sat on her couch, she was glad he handed it to her and guided the handle towards her finger so she could grab it easily without burning herself. It wasn't that hot yet, but it would get hotter, and holding it for a long time would certainly burn her fingers at some point. She heard his voice ring out so easily in her head, about how tough the week had been. It had been a terrible week for everyone.
I know. I feel so bad that I didn't see it coming... Poor Carmen. Emily, with all these gifts, felt frequently that she should be more helpful. She knew she did a lot of good at Willowbrook, but she took things like this particularly hard. She always wanted to be a step ahead, to keep these kinds of surprises from happening. But her precognition just didn't really work that way. It frustrated her at times, but remembering what she did for WB usually helped. She found a lot of these kids, brought them here where they could learn about themselves and other people like them. It was a rather fulfilling life, to be honest.
She heard the but and the mental hesitation. The statement that followed didn't surprise her in the least bit. Externally, she let out a little laugh. Taking a sip of her coffee, she replied. Oh, Niko. Why do you do this to yourself? Asher is a lovely person, but do you want to go back to what you had, or move on to something else?. Emily was a big shipper of Ferran and Nikolai, so his obsessive attachment to Asher bothered her. Though, she had nothing wrong with Asher. She had just seen Ferran and Niko together, long ago. It was just something she felt would go quite right if they would let it. They both had demons in their pasts, things that kept them from being able to have normal relationships. But they were adults. They needed to move on, and doing it together could only make their relationship stronger.
You are not ruled by your past, Niko, and you don't have to be held to your past actions. If you want to reconcile and be friends, I absolutely think you should do it. But if it's going to cause trouble for you... She let that sit in the air. Niko, as with many people, held on to their pasts with a tight grip She had seen so many of her fellow Willowbrook staff and student's pasts, how many bad things had happened to so many of them. Some still let these things have a hold on them, but there were also quite a few who let their less than happy pasts go, to enjoy a much better future. She believed, quite whole heartedly, that their futures would all end up well, if they let it happen.
And you know, I'm right across the hall if you need an escape. Yell at me mentally, I'll knock something over and yell for help.
