For the purposes of demonstration, Charls would have wanted to shake his foot at Caleb, the same foot that he had stepped into the puddle with but that would have been useless as he had already removed the water from it. So instead, unmoving, he said, "I did." And he let that sink into Caleb for a good minute.
After that, he continued, "Caleb, from the moment we became neighbors," he straightened up a bit and cleared his throat, "I think we made it a point to stay out of each other's business. One good example of it is keeping that," he looked at the puddle again, "away from me." He spared him a flat smile which flickered into and out of existence in the span of a second. "Wouldn't you agree?"
