"When your leg gets better, you'll be doing this, too," she said.
Although there was a good cloud cover to conceal the sun, Bob couldn't help but crumple his face in confusion as he watched the flying mutant snip the tree into a circular shape. Just because it was the official first day of classes in Willowbrook didn't mean that the groundskeeping team could finally lay low, now that the facilities they had worked so hard on was being used. And that was why Bob was in his place of work, putting himself to good use in spite of his injuries. "But how do I learn how to do that?" he asked as if in protest.
She only laughed in response as she paused from her work to turn and look at him with his squinted eyes. "That was exactly the question I asked myself when I was starting out like you. But you'll learn!" She looked back to her masterpiece and proceeded to clean up. "You'll learn everything in this job."
"Well, that's the hope," Robert muttered to himself as he looked down to the clipboard which he held. "I don't even know how to control my bloody powers. How am I supposed to learn how to cut trees?" He looked up to his companion, again. "Or fly. If flying is a requirement for you to cut trees."
"Bob," she giggled, distracting herself to look at the newcomer, again. "For one, cutting trees is definitely easier than power focus. For another, flying is not a requirement! And you don't just learn it and you know, stairs exist for people like you."
"Well, that's certainly a relief."
"And aren't you supposed to be supervising the cleaning of the pool? Shouldn't you go and look to make sure they haven't run off with the pool yet?"
"Who," now it was Bob's turn to laugh as he dropped his hands to his sides, "in his right mind would steal a pool? And anyway, you can't...oh, right." He threw his hands up a bit. "Mutants. How could I forget?"
The flyer giggled again as she looked back to her tree.
"Well anyway, are you sure about these numbers you've given me?" asked Robert while he was suddenly compelled to look back to the pool -- and there caught a movement. He couldn't exactly be sure what that figure was doing so close to the pool but as far as he knew, classes were done and...well...
Was it healthy for someone to be that close to the pool? And alone at this time? What if they drowned? What if they never learned how to swim? What if they never wake up? What if--
"Yeah, sure. Thanks," he said distractedly to his friend, whatever her answer was as he started to limp away. "I'll talk to you later." His movements were a little more fluid now, thank goodness to rest, exercise and Willowbrook's fantastic medical staff which gave him confidence to sometimes jog towards the lone figure.
"Hey!" he called to it as he drew closer. "You there!"
