Jayne frowned a bit at the word 'doppelganger,' which sounded very unpleasant, and then frowned again at the idea of them being foretellers of terrible things. She didn't give a lot of thought as to why such a thought made her frown, but it did.
"When I was little," she said, her frown turning slightly into a pout. "In a church, like I said. A church with a big mirror in it. I didn't tell anyone, of course. Those nuns were already half-convinced I was the Devil. Or at least one of his minions... If I had told them I was seeing forebringers of horrible things I would have been in a lot of trouble. And I hadn't," she started, her voice getting its pride back, "done anything wrong! I mean I did some things, I was a kid, but I certainly hadn't made all of those me's appear. They were like ghosts. At least then. They look a bit more solid now."
She paused. "I don't know what I would have done to get haunted. I'm a good, decent, kind person. Really!"
