Laurie wasn’t one for hard work, never had been. Or, more accurately, he was never one for hard intellectual work, so breaks usually suited him just fine. Usually. They really had until this year: all the curriculum before fifth year had all that troubling academic nonsense, like chemistry and biology, so time away from that was more than welcome. Now school consisted mostly of hands-on, practical learning, stuff that he both loved and tended to excel at. If life didn’t insist with all that troubling brainy schoolwork, Laurie might have been considered an excellent student, rather than the slacker trailing behind the pack.
His Christmas food was all eaten and he’d spent a few days bothering his friends, something poor Duck was used to by now, surely. They had gone and disappeared this morning, much to Laurie’s dismay. While eating his “lunch” (aka ice cream sandwiches and whatever he found in his pantry), Laurie animated a few toys to watch them wander aimlessly around on the floor, bumping into furniture and each other, every so often knocking each other over, which led to awkward fidgeting action figures. The scenario was so commonplace by now to actually be mundane, even for someone like Laurie who so loved his powers.
This all was to say that, strangely, Laurie found himself bored and almost (emphasis on almost) missing classes already. So for the first time in his short, carefree little life Laurie opted to study and practice before classes started again. For once, he might actually get ahead, though he seriously doubted it. To the training rooms, then.
Seeing Fallon when the elevator doors slid open, he waved happily at her, though it hadn’t occurred to him that another person might come to his same conclusion, to be honest. Laurie, social creature that he was, would never turn down company when it presented itself and he waved happily at her and plopped down next to her without so much as a “may I?” Noting the food in her hands, he nodded sagely, like he was an expert on food, and gave her a thumbs up. “That looks like one kickass sandwich.”
