"Girl you know it," Alec shot back, his tone less equally serious this time. The gift was reassurance, and it wasn't because Alec held his own survival as something massively important, and since Lenore was stuck at this school, it wasn't like he feared massively about her disappearing. It was because he'd watched Lenore fall apart every single day since Maddie's disappearance, and he couldn't fix it, and he knew she was trying to fake her composure half the time. He didn't know what it felt like, he'd experienced the loss of family over and over again to the point where it was numb to him and he didn't enable himself to harbor anyone as close as a family member. He'd never lost someone that close to him before. But Lenore's hope was dying, so he wanted to give her the reassurance, he wanted to physically assure her that he wasn't going anywhere. That nothing would happen to him; he wanted to help lift a little of the weight off of her and he hoped that might be enough to help her.
He knew that things between Lenore and Viola were strained a bit right now. "Cuddle puddling, excellent," he snorted. He set the tablet on the table to avoid breaking it prematurely, and then he reached for Lenore, pulling her into his lap.
