Joel is suspicious of Kim Who: Joel and Kim Where: Some cafe about a dozen blocks away from the Towers When: December 8, 1pm What: Joel is finally questioning that weird secret mutant friend he has after 2 years... Rating: Probs Low Status: Incomplete/Closed
Joel really needed to get out of the Towers again. He made a promise to his sister he wouldn't go far unless it was to search for Naomi. While Joel really liked that he and his sister had a heart to heart and things between them were okay, it lowered the floodgates so to speak. He already had his break down and cry with Fiona. He actually expressed how he felt to Jillian. And now since all that emotional crap he never paid too much attention to before had its place in the limelight, Joel had difficulty pushing them back into Pandora's box. Now, it is all out and Joel couldn't help but feel a little agitated. Suddenly Jill's crankiness made sense. He went from just shutting it all out, to acting ridiculous, to breaking down, to opening up, to just the soreness that followed.
Needless to say, Joel didn't get hardly any sleep the last few nights. He would try but just lay in bed wondering. It was during the sleepless moments Kim popped into his head. Joel knew Kim was a mutant but just didn't say anything. He liked having one friend outside Seagram Tower -- someone who was not from the insular Syndicate. The only problem was, Joel now wondered if Kim was associated with another group that wished people like his mother ill. Sure, he knew Kim going on two years and that seemed to be a very long time to get in with someone to enact this kidnapping. Then again, Joel didn't think he gave himself away and his mother did practice very good OPSEC. Maybe Kim followed him -- he did kind of have abilities that seem to match stealth. Of course, if Joel was right, that would mean all of this was his fault after all. He almost told Blair about it but then he knew it would open up other questions like why didn't he mention this before, why didn't he recruit Kim etc etc. Besides, Joel could still be wrong and his relationship with his not-Syndicate mutant friend would remain intact.
Joel wanted to keep his promise to Jill when he made the plans to meet with Kim. This was technically mom business. But he still remained closeish to home when he named the cafe. Joel liked this one because it made some good cheese danishes. Since it definitely was pretty chilly out, Joel wore a peat overcoat, corderory pants, and a sweatshirt underneath. He also wore a fedora. Joel didn't theme his outfits but if he did, this would definitely be hipster Sherlock Holmes. He did have dark circles under his eyes if one looked closely enough as he sat at a table in the far corner over a plate full of danishes which he munched on slowly. A couple cans of coke sat nearby. He seemed to pay close attention to the door and sometimes looked over his shoulder to make sure no Seagram people followed him.
His intent was to read Kim's mind the moment he walked in and keep tabs on him to see if there is any hint of his friend being an evil spy. He hoped not.
