Ben shrugged. "It is what it is, Daniel. You've gotten accustomed to your pain. I have too. It's what we do. We learn to live with it." Which was why Daniel had never wanted Ben to ease that pain for too long. It probably made carrying that burden so much harder when the weight of it was returned. If the pain was constant, the body and mind grew numb to it over time.
"Can we please talk about something else?" he asked, reaching over to grab hold of Daniel's hand. "It's not that I don't want you to know these things, but I can only drudge up old memories in short bursts." He hoped that Daniel understood.
