Verbal cues were great...emotions were less so. And Lenore had a lot of them. Alec wasn't awesome with it. He sounded awesome sometimes, but when they got this emotional... he just wasn't good with it. Deep down, he truly was a socially awkward person. So he kinda just stayed quiet while she ranted and went from one anger to another. And then she told him to leave, which he wasn't going to do, because she obviously wasn't done, and if he just left then they'd be right back to where they were before - ignoring eachother - and Alec wasn't okay with that.
"Everyone at this school is fucked up, Lenore," he said calmly. "I have some real relationships." He didn't leave as instructed. Instead, he moved deeper into her room, throwing himself down onto her bed and lounging there. "I'm not going to apologize for having sex. It's the only intimacy I know how to do. Not everybody gets to be all optimistic and shit about relationships like you do. Not everybody gets to go out and make friends and fall in love and all that bullshit. It's not easy for some of us. We don't got that kind of courage. I wasn't leading you on."
