David and Ren bond over Sunday Football Who: Ren and David Where: TV Lounge When: 24 November, afternoon What: Ren is all what's a football? And David is all *schools* Rating: Low Status: Incomplete/Closed
Sundays happened to be lazy days for Ren. Most people got all their funk on Saturdays so Sundays became a day of rest. Well, it was for Ren growing up too. Saturday mornings brought morning classes and then Sunday would be the only day he would have completely off. Today, he knew it wouldn't be completely quiet. For one, he had another bad dream which always made him feel semi-off kilter for most of the day. The other was Lenore had a BBQ going on and he supposed he would go. He did like Lenore so there would be no reason for him not to go. He just thought of how many people would potentially be there. Lenore had a lot of friends! Would he be able to control his powers? He knew he had to keep trying. He used to be around people all the time. It is what happened when you lived in a big city and if he ever hoped to go back (on the condition he would not run into Takeshi again), he would have to get used to being around people in groups. He would have to exercise his power to prolong it.
However, just as he stepped outside and began to walk closer to the crowd of people, Ren almost felt like he was viewing himself from the outside and he saw himself walk right back into the rec center and into a random lounge. He just couldn't do it today. Or maybe then. He muttered under his breath that he would sit in here for a few minutes. 15 at the most! Then he would head back. He had to. He did not give up. His hands slipped into the sleeves of his sweater as he gripped the edges. His sweater was his armor that would protect him from the feelings of others. He really wished it could be real armor but then he supposed it would be rather heavy. Then again, isn't power in general supposed to be heavy?
As he pondered the status of how unarmorlike his sweater actually was, he startled himself by noticing there actually was someone in the room. He should have felt it. Hell, he should have seen it because the TV was on. His sudden surprise sent a small ripple of the emotion of surprise into the air in a random direction but after it passed, Ren reached out to the person who watched TV.
Of course, calm. That emotion you had to look for. So surprising you had to look for calm -- an empath's best friend in the sea of chaotic emotions that made up most the student body. And also warmness. Open. Even despite that, he didn't sit down. It was a muscular guy, something Ren always felt initially uneasy about. He was scrawny and skinny. He felt so short ever since he came here.
Then his eyes flicked to the TV. It was that odd sport with the weird shaped ball. Ren knew what football was, well knew of it. He didn't understand anything passed the big men covered in their own armor which they needed because they tackled one another. For Reasons. Well, to get the ball to the other side? And it always seemed like they would move to one side or the other and then they would stop and set up again... at least soccer was prettier! It was like dancing! The upperclassman in his school in Tokyo that he liked played soccer and the way her hair flew in the wind as she chased after the ball...
No, don't be weird, Ren. He licked his lips before he spoke, "Ah... so is this... football?" Yes... don't be weird, Ren.
