It wasn't that Daniel was in an awkward position, he wasn't. He knew Ben wasn't Emma's assailant so there was at least another man he knew couldn't have done this (at least, not willing to tell Emma that no, Ben's not into women either and certainly he didn't have the personality to do such a thing), but at the same time, if they were going to start sniffing around other men at Seagram, they might open themselves up for more trouble.
They arranged to meet at an out of the way bar but one public enough for Emma's comfort in the city. Daniel arrived and made his way through the bar looking for her. It wasn't packed but busy enough they'd go without much notice - a couple meeting for a drink is what anyone would think. That was just fine. "Hey Emma," Daniel said softly, noting the bruising around her neck that was still visible even after a week. He didn't offer a hand but sat without an invitation from her. Him being there was invite enough.
