His words sobered her for a moment. How would she stop him? The sad realization that she had was that she couldn't. That was the problem with thoughts. People had them, were entitled to them, and sometimes they wouldn't change them no matter what you did, proved, or were. That was the part that hurt bad enough to break her heart. "You like projecting the image that you're completely unbeatable, don't you? On every front." Shifting in her chair, she moved to rest her chin on her arm, peering over at him. "Me, too. So I guess we're gonna get stuck an awful lot." Her lips curled into a smirk as she watched him. While she'd agree that he was tough, she didn't think he fully appreciated yet that she was persistent, a force in its own way.
As he mused and scratched, Tori watched him. She wasn't always one for open introspection, but since they were headed that way, she figured she'd take the bait and play along. "Well, the whole place is kind of like a family in a way, isn't it? A weird kind of extended family? Not that I know." She wasn't any family expert. The only ones she really knew anything about were from TV, and she wanted them. They were beautiful and perfect. Her own was messy and disgusting, even if she loved her dad. "But it's also a school and a business. That's always been weird to me." A little more honest than typical for her. It was one of those things that she had a hard time wrapping her head around. She was at least smart enough not to ask him about family or roommates. She wouldn't have wanted to talk about it, so she didn't want to open that up for discussion.
