"No promises, but I'll do what I can." Oren could lie with the best of them when necessary, but he didn't enjoy it. Honesty tended to be the best policy. Not saying anything was a close second. That was the way he lived. He couldn't say that he'd mobilize the troops immediately, but he would certainly direct some attention her family's way in some down time, when someone was in the area and got a free moment. There was no harm in checking in. Happy agents tended to make better agents. No one would ever convince him otherwise, even if few agreed.
What Oren believed was infinitely complicated, and he was well aware that his opinion was warped and biased. For the most part he tried to be fair. In his heart, however, he was brutal and bitter. The best world would be one entirely without humans. They were the source of all evil, the monsters who would hurt, hunt, kill them all given half the chance. They would make slaves and test subjects of them all. But he didn't want to taint her. She had been free, hadn't known anything about the darker side of life until just this moment. He needed to be mindful not to sway her. It would be no good to have a world populated by people as bitter as him, plus her trigger seemed important since she was so inexperienced. She needed to hold onto her happy. Hopefully he hadn't damaged that too much.
Revolution. He smirked at the thought and pushed up to stand before her. "That's true. But revolutions don't go anywhere without dedication and careful planning. So for now, we wait." It was the best way to explain their inaction, which he was sure could be frustrating. Sometimes it was enough to make even him want to lose his temper, and he was remarkably even keeled and level headed. "We bide our time, get ourselves organized, and strike when the best possible opportunity arises." He flashed her a kind smile, as if he weren't talking about war and anarchy. For him, thoughts like those were as natural as what he'd eat that day. "Don't thank me. You need to know. And I need coffee. Maybe cheesecake. What do you think? We can get warmed up, and you can ask me anything. I'm in a sharing mood." He blamed the holiday.
