Who: Sam Winchester and Jess Moore.
Where: The beach at Santa Monica, just about sunset
When: Their weekend away, with his baby sister.
Rating: Schmoop alert!
They had spent the day on the pier, showing Jenny the rides she could ride when she got to be a big girl, holding hands and stealing kisses from each other that tasted like the pink cotton candy they'd shared, (none for Jenny.)
Wrapped up in his over-sized Stanford sweatshirt, he watched her push Jenny's stroller, with the plastic over it to keep out the wind and the cold and the sand, across the beach.
"Every girl needs a California sunset. We're starting your sister off right." she'd told him, grinning. He pulled on one of his hoodies, hands buried in the pocket. While Jess was fussing with Genevieve, singing a slow, low version of 'California Girls', Sam started drawing in the sand. He drew a big heart, and put their initials at the top. On the inside, he wrote the most important question he'd ever had to ask Jess in his whole life.
Inside the heart, he asked, "Jess...marry me?"
He watched her and waited for her to approach him, nervous and shaking, palms sweaty and clutched in his pocket.
