A man blinked in, and staggered, and looked around.
Oh, no, not again...
One moment, he was not there, the next, he was. He stood and patted himself down, hands and mind doing a check of what he had on him.
...jeans and shirt and jacket, boots, socks and underwear
wallet, change
keys
cellphone...
yep, all there.
He flipped out the cellphone and dialed eight numbers, one after another, his face and fingers never displaying his growing concern and unease. No one answered, so... either everyone had been snatched like he had or... damn it. Once again with the alternate universes. He really was getting tired of this. Who had drawn him in now? He turned and looked around the town he was in, and at the car he was next to, and on a hunch, tried the keys. One fit, and the car opened and he looked in, in amazement and detached sense of awe at a cherry 67 Chevy.
He slipped into the driver's seat and nodded. He's find a sheriff and see if he could get some help. If not, he would find someplace to go quiet and reach for Emma. He smiled at the thought of her, and he drove slowly down the street, carefully following another vehicle. He found a sign saying the local sheriff was in another town and he shrugged and gunned the car out of the town the way the sign pointed. This town was a little too like Logan's kind of town for him. One bar, one hotel, and not much else.
Why not drive on? He drove, and he concentrated on trying to still his mind to reach Emma across this distance. He never saw the sign for the town he was supposed to turn off to, never realized he was headed out into nowhere. His mind slowly stilled and he felt energy building in him. he would have one shot at this and he started to reach out--
--but the wheel hit a rock, and the car bounced, hit a second, and then it was turning and even his reflexes could not save him from his head slamming against the wheel and stars being everywhere--
--and the energy dispersed and he cried out as the world became rolling light and darkness swam up and swallowed him.
Some time later, he staggered out of the wreck, mind whirling, and confused, the heat pounding down at him from the sun, and staggered out, only remembering he had to reach her... had to reach her, had to--.
Scott Summers staggered onward, directly into the Australian Outback, leaving behind wallet, water bottle... and Godbox...
