A small team of Jedi moved silently into the ruins of a city that had been destroyed long ago. Their formations were flawless as they moved point by point into the heart of the destruction. These few Jedi, what was still left of an order struggling to survive in such a trying time, called out to each other in clicks and whistles as they surveyed the damaged and searched for survivors. It became clear after a while that there was no one left and the Jedi began to disperse somewhat more casually.
"I cannot believe the destruction." Several of the Jedi headed off to the east while a select few took the time to examine the rubble they had come upon. "What do you think, Kleio?" A man called out to one of his fellow travelers as her hand graced the walls. The woman seemed caught up in a dream as she touched the rubble. He wanted to grab her attention, but realized it wasn't that she just wasn't paying attention. She was using her psychometry, reading the memories of the walls and rubble by just its touch.
The woman could feel what had gone on in this area and took a deep breath, "Follow me. I know where we should go." She moved over rubble for some time before arriving at what was a very gruesome scene. Blood covered the ground as well as remnants of what was once a man. The body looked as if it was ravaged by wild creatures and Kleio had to take another deep breath before she moved closer.
"Is it Master Suutari?"
"I do not know," Kleio moved closer to the body, dropping into a squatted position to touch what ground was visible between the blood splatters. Flashes of history flooded her mind's eye. She saw a great many things but focused on what was the most recent. A battle. The Jedi Master that laid before them had been wounded even before the battle. He was no match for the woman who fought him.
"Kleio?"
"Yes, Bharaja. This was once Master Suutari. Now he is one with the Force." She mumbled a brief prayer for the dead. It did not make her feel better about what had happened to the master. She reviewed the visions once more and came to a conclusion. She knew this young woman. "Tanik."
"What?" Bharaja was busy recovering what was left of the body. They would want to burn it tonight, but he had only heard a whisper.
"It was Tanik, Bharaja. She did this." The woman shook her head as she stood back up and took another breath to clear her mind. She couldn't understand how the young woman could stray so far from the path.
"You mean your old student?" Bharaja finished and moved closer to Kleio. It seemed that many students now were falling short of the path. They found it easier to take to the darkness than to try to stay strong within the light.
Kleio only nodded as she reached for her communicator and hailed the other Jedi in their band, "This is Kleio Zohar. We've located Master Suutari. Coordinates are as follows."
The communicator beeped once before a voice reply came through, "You found him alive?"
Kleio shook her head as she turned away from the destruction. She wiped sweat and dirt from her face and, as she did so, the tell-tale facial markings of her Kiffar race finally showed through. "Negative. Master Suutari resides within the Force."
Now she would gather her group and return to the hunt. She had to find this young woman before someone else did. She not only had visions of Suutari's death, she had visions of another's demise. Someone torn apart by a Kath Hound.
Tanik had seen it in her dreams again. Or maybe it was a transmission she'd intercepted. Either way, she knew about them. There were three who followed where she had been. They spilled even more blood than she had on her own, but it wasn't as satisfying to her. They seemed to only want to destroy those who feared them. They had yet to have run into one who did not. She knew that her old teacher Kleio did not fear and she would not allow her to be taken by them. She was too determined to catch her old student herself.
But Tanik did not want to be taken by these people. She was happy being alone... for now. Even Kleio's soft words offered her no solace. She was mad as a hatter and there was no turning back to the way things were. Suutari's death had pushed her on a path of no return. He had not feared her. He fought even though he was wounded and would not accept death until it was knocking at his door. "Knock, knock, knock Suutari. Death is here. He will take you away and you will become one with the force forever. Accept your fate and go like the nice little man you are."
Her ship floating silently within the void of space, monitoring transmissions. She had heard Kleio's voice as she called out before and after their landing upon the planet she had recently vacated. Only now was she leaving the system and the transmissions were becoming unclear and garbled. She smiled happily as she talked to herself within the small ship. She'd turned off the gravity and was now floating and spinning in circles as she mumbled about what was going on. "You'll never find me, Kleio." It made her happy to say it. Kleio was old and a relic of days gone by. Tanik was one of the new galactic order that would soon come.
So to continue her game, the Theelin sent out a single transmission before re-engaging her gravity so she could jump to light speed. Something short and broadcast in such a way that would almost seem like background noise unless one knew what they were looking for. These Jedi would notice it for sure.
