"What I wanted was for you to tell me the truth - that's all."
He took a second with the rest, almost visibly shifting through the layers of information there. Some of it he applied to what the Doctor had said, filling in some missing pieces and seeing how they changed the shape of the over-all picture. Some of it he applied to what he knew about this Doctor and Master, and some of it got slotted into what he thought he knew about his Master and Doctor and the relationship between them.
A lot of it came down to that complicated slide of emotion through the Master's eyes, and what he knew about the man he was walking with.
"I wasn't asking because I thought you were going to hurt me. I was asking because there are things going on that I need to understand about the Doctor and Master in general. My unpleasant experiences," he said, a wry twist on the last couple of words, "aren't important, on their own."
