"You're welcome," he answered, honestly. He could have done without the punching, but it was worth it. Here was his friend, in control, for the moment. Seemingly aware of what he truly wanted and needed, and able to ask for it. Responding to the Doctor as an actual person, and not the idea of him in his head.
There was no way the Doctor could regret the pain it took to have him like this.
