"Frisia was a small planet in a strategic jumping-off point for one sector full of habitable planets. They weren't particularly inclined to allow outsiders travel through their system, though they could be bribed - if you had the means. Until their civil war, about two centuries ago." Anne shook her head angrily.
"Their high priestess and ruler was killed, officially by a freak accident of nature. They took it as a sign from their gods, and had a war over the exact meaning. Now, they're just another annex of the human empire."
Only it wasn't an accident.
"Dirk once said something about the war on Frisia being stupid, pointless. After that mission, I think. It just was a scrap of memory that came to mind after the last time I'd been here, and I had John look. Look for something, anything, that was out of place after that war. Anyone. Like the boy, the son. The son that was shuffled away by his family, forgotten because they considered him an embaressment, a heretic."
