Gaynor's John (Finished) Jack had taken a long walk out of town and through a wooded area after the - admittedly enjoyable - encounter with Ianto and Spike. Taking the time to gather his thoughts and concerns that had niggled at him at the time, but he'd ignored. He knew that something of this place left with the people who passed through, and he suspected Ianto would take back a determination to end the... unique relationship he had with Jack and the Master.
He could take back more - actual memories of why he made that choice, whatever they were - but Jack doubted that would be the case. Other than the fact that no one else remembered, Ianto had failed to remember, eventually. And lost some of his precious control in the process. Control that Jack knew he prized.
The darkening of the sky barely registered, at least until he caught the first explosions of light and sound, turning to look upwards in surprise at the display of fireworks. "Well, that's new," he murmured to himself, a smile creeping onto his face. He looked around for a good place to watch from, and found a low bluff with a soft carpet of grass, and no trees to block his view of the fireworks - though he couldn't see where they were coming from.
A brilliant burst of orange and silver and gold lit up the landscape below him enough that he spotted movement, and Jack shifted, sprawling out so he was less visible, watching the person. He doubted he was completely hidden, but he would be harder to see like this, anyway.
