"Good," the Doctor said, and turned back to Jack, steeling himself. "Right. Let's get this done. See what's going on in there."
He brought his hands up to Jack's face again, looking solemnly into his eyes. "Just relax, Jack, as much as you can. I'm just going to take a quick peek inside."
Jack's eyebrows rose humorously at that, but he did his best to relax past the thumping in his brain. He sat still and quiet, meeting the Doctor's eyes with openness and trust.
The Doctor nodded minutely, then closed his eyes and began to push tentatively against Jack's mind. At least, he meant to push. Instead, he slipped right in.
He opened his eyes and stared at JAck. "WEll, that's not what I expected."
