It hadn’t occurred to River that she might be trusting him too much until he reached across her like that. She blamed the trip through a time rift for messing with her judgment. In actuality she had no reason to trust him, since he wasn’t in the Filipino Army. He just happened to be the only one around and seemed to know what was going on. River was forced by circumstances to trust him, a fact she didn’t like.
“The Doctor, huh? That’s convenient,” she said as the ship took off. It did feel strange, but she had to assume it was 21st century technology. Early 21st century, at that. River had the slight memory of the title of the chapter on this area being A Time of Change.
River had actually heard of the Timelords. Greel was known to mention the mythic race as proof that time travel was possible, that humans could take it for themselves. They seemed to her a load of Greel propaganda, and River did not like Greel propaganda.
“You think he can fix my eyes and/or take me home, then?” she asked. Ideally, River would like both, but for now she would settle for at least one.
