“Just the head,” she told him once she realized he had taken her hand. It surprised her a little to find out how easy it was to move through the ship without seeing it. River supposed she spent enough time in it to know it well enough.
The step out of the ship was expected, but beyond that was new territory. Moving from the air inside a ship to the natural air of a planet was always a change, but this air made River recoil.
“What is that smell?” she asked, not sure she really wanted to know. The air on River’s Earth was much different than this, much…. she would use the word ‘cleaner.’ She had tried to ignore it when Jack said ‘time,’ but the air had to remind her. If this was Earth, which she only had his word on, it was a different Earth.
River stopped just outside the ship in order to close the door, an action which had become as natural to her over time as combing her bushy hair, but even after the door had clicked shut, she lingered by it.
“You’re not with the Filipino Army, are you, Captain Harkness?”
