Cho had been excited about this secret meeting for Defense Against Dark Arts ever since Padma had told her about it. Now that she knew the meeting would be on Saturday, in Hogsmeade, she knew she had to tell Marietta about it. After all, Padma herself had said it would be all right for her to pass the message on to her best friend. Even though Cho wanted to tell Marietta all about it, she had hesitated. There were reasons why she didn't run to her friend and tell her all about this new and exciting way to rise against Umbridge. Because Marietta's family was giving her a hard time about Dolores Umbridge and this new administration, and as much as Cho wanted her friend to side with her, she knew that Marietta had conflicts of interest. Sometimes Cho even wondered if Marietta believed along with her that Harry and Dumbledore were right. But she wasn't going to let Marietta's conflicts keep her out of this secret. Cho climbed up on Marietta's bed without invitation. "I've got a secret to tell you," she said. "A secret?" her curly haired friend echoed. "What kind of a secret?" "There's to be a secret club. Harry Potter and his friends are running it. We're going to do practical Defense Against Dark Arts." "But that's not allowed anymore," Marietta said. "Professor Umbridge said--" "That's why it's a secret," Cho said, feeling a bit bad as soon as she interrupted her friend. "I'm going to join in. You've got to keep it a secret, Marietta. I want you to join alongside me. I think it'll be great fun and we need to keep preparing for our N.E.W.T.s. You know how good Harry is at this sort of stuff. You know how he faced You-Know-Who... Let's do it together, Marietta." Her friend hesitated, and then nodded. Cho took her hands and squeezed them, suddenly filled with relief that her friend was joining her instead of standing against her. She didn't want to do this without Marietta at her side. No one else had been so good and patient with her ever since she'd lost Cedric. Marietta knew her better than anyone else. And they belonged together in secrets. |
