Sam gave Daniel a soft smile and nodded when he said he had never meant to hurt her. "I know. I just wasn't able to deal with it all at the time," she admitted. "I keep wishing I had done things differently when you came in the way you did after you found out."
This was the first time that the two of them had really talked since that day. He hadn't even been there to see her off when she had gone through the Gate. But now they were being honest with each other, and as Daniel voiced what she knew, she felt her heart skip. He loved her.
Reaching up, she covered his hands with hers, returning his kiss. A shudder ran through her at the touch of his lips. Oh God, she had missed this. She had missed him.
When they parted, she locked eyes with him and shrugged slightly at his question. "I'm not sure," she said. "I--."
Before she could finish, she heard her intercom went off. Sighing, she knew what this had to be and went over to answer it. Sure enough, it was Chuck telling her that Landry and O'Neill were asking to talk to her - and Daniel - immediately. So she quickly grabbed her clothes and got dressed before the two of them made their way up to Operations.
"Let me talk to them," she said after asking Chuck to patch the call into her office.
She took a deep breath just before Landry appeared on her screen with Jack in the background. "Colonel Carter, is Doctor Jackson and Doctor O'Neill there? We understand that they--."
"Came through last night. Yes, Sir," she answered as she waved Daniel over into the camera's field of view.
Landry raised his eyebrows as Jack stepped forward when they saw him. "You do know that they weren't authorized."
"Yes, Sir, but I needed them here," she said.
"You--what?"
"I called through last night - Landry was already gone, and it was an emergency. We had a piece of biotechnology that was threatening Colonel Sheppard's team, so Doctor Jackson and O'Neill came through to help us."
"And this technology..."
"Destroyed. But no one was hurt, thanks to them."
Landry seemed stunned. "I'm sure that's going to be a hell of a report. But why did Harriman say Jackson told him I gave the authorization?"
"I told him too." She shrugged at the look on their faces. "I figured it would get them here faster."
