When morning came, Sam woke up when she felt Daniel's hand on her temple. She almost opened her eyes but stopped herself when she heard him starting to talk, apologizing to her for what had happened. Sitting there, she just listened to him, the expression in his voice causing her throat to tighten and her heart to ache again.
When he paused, she opened her eyes to look at him. "You could have just called me, you know," she told him softly before sitting up so they were face to face.
Reaching out, she cupped her hand to his face, rubbing her thumb across his jaw. She wasn't sure where to start.
"Daniel, when we broke up, it killed me. I fought so hard to get them to let you come here with me, and when they said no, and then you got so upset..." She sighed. "It hurt more than when Jolinar died inside me, especially with Dad having died so recently. So when Carson started spending time with me, it was nice. But I never thought he'd propose to me."
She shrugged, dropping her hand down to her other one and taking both of his. "If you hadn't come last night, I probably would have married him and continued ignoring something. We both would have actually." She looked down. "Carson's not you, Daniel. I never got over you either. I still love you."
