Sam wanted to say something - anything - to Daniel as he stood there in front of her, but she couldn't make her voice work, no matter how many times she opened her mouth. What in the hell was going on? He had said something about a wedding present?
Finally, he started to move forward toward her, the bottle Caitlin gave him in his hand.
"What's that?" she asked, looking up at him when he stopped in front of her. Her breath was catching in her throat, and she felt her heart thudding in her chest. Why in the hell was she feeling like this? She and Daniel had ended things last year before she had come here. It had been messy and unpleasant.
But still...
Suddenly, Daniel was kissing her, and at first, Sam was so shocked, she didn't know what to do. She was aware of Caitlin crying out in pain, following by Carson yelling, obviously unsure whether to stop Daniel or help Cait.
"What are you--Cait!"
Finally, Sam managed to make herself put her hands up and push Daniel away. Carson was kneeling next to Cait, her slightly bloodied hand in his. Sighing, she rubbed her hand over her face.
"I think we should go into my office," she said, taking Daniel's arm and propelling him that way. She looked back at Carson. "I have a first aid kit in here."
He nodded. "Okay," he said, helping Cait up from the floor. "Come on, love."
Sam closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath as they went into the office.
