Sam let out a sigh as she flopped down on the couch in her quarters and looked around. She knew she should probably do some packing since she and Carson were moving in together officially next week, but right at that moment, she couldn't be bothered. She'd spent most of the day in a protracted argument with members of the IOA, mainly Woosley as he had gone on and on about the fact that he felt allowing the expedition members to get married and have children was a distraction. She had finally had it and informed them that she was marrying Carson Beckett, and that it was in no way a distraction.
Though the look on Jack's face had been pretty priceless, she had never intended to announce her engagement that way, especially considering how much of a surprise it had been when Carson had actually asked. She had sort of hoped that she could talk to Daniel about it first, but she knew that Jack had to have told him by now. And Caitlin.
Crap. She realized she should probably tell Carson what had happened. He was supposed to be off-shift right about now, so she reached up to touch her headset and call him, but before she could, Chuck's voice came over the channel instead, followed by Daniel - Daniel! - cutting him off.
Partially horrified and partially stunned, she listened to him slur drunkenly about him and Caitlin having brought a wedding present. Soon, Chuck seemed to have gotten him away and was telling her how they had come through, apparently with the excuse that Landry had said they needed to come. Rubbing her temple, she told him that she would be right there, and as she stood up, she called Carson, telling him that he needed to accompany her to Operations.
He met her at the transporter. "What's going on, love?"
"Daniel Jackson and Caitlin are here," she told him.
"What? Why?" The look on his face at the mention of Caitlin's name spoke volumes.
"Because I think Jack O'Neill told them about our engagement," she said as the door slid open.
He followed her in. "I...why would Doctor Jackson...?"
"Well..." she said as she pressed the light on the map to take them up to Operations. She looked over at him when the door closed and proceeded to give him the short version of the story, "Daniel and I were together before I came to Atlantis."
"Oh..."
"Yeah. Oh."
"This isn't good."
"No."
When the transporter arrived on the Operations, they hurried out and through the Gate room up to the control room. Poor Chuck looked like he was a hairs breadth away from calling security. Caitlin was holding a bottle, and Sam heard Carson suck in a deep breath when he saw her.
Then there was Daniel. Oh God, Daniel. Sam found herself staring at him, not sure what to do.
