"Oh, love," Carson said softly, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her close. "I wish you had never had to leave either. I can't tell you how many times something happened, and all I could think about was telling you...before I realized that I couldn't."
He held her close as she cried, nuzzling into her hair. "I know. I wish I had an idea of what we could do because I don't want you to leave either."
He sighed, knowing there was no easy answer to this. Plus he was sure that Cait wasn't really in any condition to deal with all of this, considering.
"Why don't we put that aside for right now, okay?" he asked. He nudged her head up and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Do you want to take a shower or bath and get cleaned up? Then we could have some coffee and something to eat. Deal with this once we're both feeling a little bit more human."
