Caitlin slowly turned her head to the side and looked at Carson. She blinked her eyes several times since they were burning. She felt ashamed of what she had done and found herself looking away. And when he called her "love", tears sprung to her eyes. Without looking at them, Caitlin used the cuff of her shirt to wipe them away.
When Carson sat on the edge of the bed, Caitlin looked up and took a deep breath. As he pressed his hand to her forehead and then cheeks, Caitlin found herself leaning into his touch. "I feel like I got drunk and made a complete ass out of myself," she quietly said. She pulled back, knowing it was wrong for him to touch her. Carson was in love with Sam and they were going to get married.
"I'm sorry, Carson. I shouldn't have came here and it's probably best if I just leave. I'm sure General Landry wants to talk to me anyway and fire me for what I did," she said before she slipped out of the bed. She started to look for her shoes and when that became too overwhelming because of her headache, she turned and looked at Carson.
"You know, I broke up with you because I didn't want you to think you had some sort of obligation to me," Caitlin quietly admitted. "I didn't want to. But I kept thinking about how unfair it would be for you because I wasn't here, and believe me, I tried to come back. But none of that matters now." She took a shaky breath and rubbed her forehead. "I am happy for you, Carson. You deserve to be happy and I want you to be happy, no matter the circumstances. I just...I wish I would've handled myself better last night and I'm sorry."
