"Yep," Burnie grinned proudly. "Best job ever."
He gave the kid a sort of I-don't-know-about-this look, like he wasn't sure he should be doing this and was weighing which option would get him in more trouble. Finally, he nodded.
"Okay, but we have to careful so my boss won't know - you've met him right? old guy with the accent? - so we've got to get out of here first." He looked to his left and pointed to a narrow passage behind a cooling column. "We can sneak out that way. Just follow me. I know all the back routes to the labs."
He got up quietly, slinking along the wall and listening to make sure the kid was following. Of course he couldn't take a child to a actual weapons lab, but he'd commandeered an unclaimed space for tinkering with the paintball guns. The worst that could happen there was that they would both got really, really messy.
