COOKIES SO MANY COOKIES OMG WHO: Christine Chapel WHEN: 2259.192 [July 11] - all day WHERE: Enterprise's mess kitchen and then various. WHAT: Christine given a mental health day from McCoy spends the time baking and leaving cookies around like a cookie Santa Claus. RATING: G NOTES: She's leaving them when she's done so it'll be later at night, but if you want to react to your character receiving them you can. All the girls on the away mission got some as did the rescue party. If I forgot anyone, tell me, but they got cookies too! And they totally all say who they're too and from with the words, "thank you." for the rescue team, and "Sweets cure all annoyances." to the away mission team. Look at the yum!
It wasn't completely unheard of for a crew member to commandeer a small corner of the mess hall's kitchen. It just didn't happen that often, especially for anyone hanging out there more than an hour or so, much less most of the day. But Christine didn't take up a lot of space and she made sure to stay the hell out of the way as to not prevent someone else from doing their job.
This had been a habit she'd picked up from her grandmother. When life gets hard (or hell even annoying), you did something that you could accomplish, something that could keep you busy. Her grandmother's thing had been to cook. Since she watched her grandchildren after school (and extracurriculars) most days, Christine had picked up the habit first hand. Bad day at school? Make Cajun fried chicken. Mad at your friends? Make homemade candy. The worse the day the more you cooked.
Christine had once asked what you did with all the food if you made too much, and her grandmother had told her to share it. Going on to joke: "I fed the neighborhood for weeks when your momma married that yankee father of yours." Christine looked on in horror before realizing the joke, after all her father's family had been in Louisiana for a few generations at that point.
Still as far as bad went this wasn't too horrible. It wasn't like the night she and Roger broke their engagement. She moved back into the dorm and made enough food to feed the floor. It had made her popular.
Just yesterday had been annoying, and McCoy had suggested a day off. (She figured he didn't want her giggling behind his back about that costume. Or telling sickbay about it.)
So she got her frustration out about ending up in a cell again (and the lingering frustration of her own recent craziness) by baking cookies. They were the easiest thing to make in the space she had. So she'd done that most of the day. Sheet after sheet, concentrating on the task at hand. Peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies, chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, ...
When she was finally done in the early evening she had a smile on her face. She felt better especially as she loaded her cookies and arranged them on separate plates for people.
So she delivered them. No one really seemed to be home so it helped. She left Gaila's cookies with Heather, and when noticing Areel's office was locked for the day, left her batch with her roommate. Ann would find hers covered at her work station, and Christine used the sliding door to Uhura's room from the bathroom to leave hers on the table.
Next she took a rather large basket of them to Giotto's office for Ethan, Tom, Giotto, and the other women on the away mission, before setting the final two plates on McCoy's desk and Kirk's ready room.
(Of course his had nothing with nuts. After all, it'd be just her luck that he'd suddenly die from a peanut where there'd been no allergy there before.)
Satisfied and rather tired from the running around, baking, and heat of the oven she went to grab dinner and then curl up to read.
