Who: Heather McConel + OPEN When: 2259.128 [05/08] -- after alpha shift Where: U.S.S. Enterprise → Deck 6: Room 62 What: Heather sends her sister Helen a subspace message to wish her a Happy Mother's Day. Rating: G
Heather was not presentable when she trudged into the quarters she shared with Gaila. She was sweaty, her hair a fright and her uniform singed. It wasn't exactly an unusual state to find her in after shift but she had been planning to send her baby sister a Mother's Day message of sorts.
Well. It didn't have to be a video message, she supposed...
"Computer, begin recording subspace message marked for Helen McConel-- voice only," she instructed, collapsing into a sitting position on her bed.
Heather began removing her boots as she spoke to her sister. "Hey there, Momma Bear," she greeted with a smile. (Her sister knew her well enough to know when she wasn't by voice alone.) "An' wee Joey, too. I miss ye both somethin' fierce." But then they knew that; never hurt to remind them, though.
Wandering toward the bathroom, Heather shed her soiled uniform and moved to the sink to freshen up. She continued her dictation as she went: "I was thinkin' o' you today. Mother's Day, ye ken? An' Mum, too, but ye know yer my favorite sister." She chuckled a little to herself.
"Anyway, just wanted ye ter know I was thinkin' o' ye, an' I love you. So." Heather wiped her face with a towel and dropped it into the waste processor with her uniform. "How 'bout ye send s'more pictures o' wee Joey, hm? I'd love ter see how he's grown."
Heather pulled her hair back and moved to throw on some clean clothes. "An' ye have a lovely day, sis. Take care o' yourself-- o' Joey an' Mum an' Da." She smiled, looking at the holo of her family sitting nearby. "An' I'll do the same, a'ight?"
Taking a breath, Heather smiled. "Computer, end recording. Send to communications; mark private for Helen McConel in Glasgow, Scotland on Earth only."
Satisfied, she collapsed onto her bed. Well, actually, she probably ought to send one to her mum, too. Heather sighed. Felt like her day's work was never ending.
