Who: Angela Martine (narrative) When: 2259.014 (01/14/2259) Where: U.S.S. Enterprise What: Angela is doing her interview, and all goes well! Mostly. Rating: G
"That's -- that is really distracting." Angela was watching the robotic camera float around, and had to resist the urge to go over to it, grab it and try and make it stand still. She gave her head a quick shake, and reminded herself that the camera was there to record her, and while talking to the camera was okay, staring at it and just trailing off was not a good idea. Or rather it wouldn't make very good film.
So she put a smile on her face, and replayed in her head, the question that she had been asked.
"I'm Angela Martine, Ensign, and Weapons Specialist, 2nd Class." She could rattle all that off without even really thinking about it, it was who she was now. But while she might be able to say it without missing a beat, it did give her a little thrill that she was able to say that. And as she said it, she found herself sitting up a bit straighter and adjusting her posture ever so slightly.
The next question was about her duties, and Angela answered the question going over what it was she did, about how she worked with the fire suppression team. She tried to keep the epic grin that wanted to break out on her face in check. It was just that she loved her job. She didn't want to bore the people asking the questions to tears, but she would have talked about her job for forever. As the next question they asked was what her regular day was like, so that was easy enough to answer, as were the questions asked about what he had learned, how she felt about serving on the ‘Fleet flaghship, and so on.
She felt like she was doing a good job, not making an ass of herself and doing Starfleet if not proud, at least not embarrassing them. That was when she was asked; How does your family feel about your choice to join Starfleet?.
There was a moment where she just sat there, before her brain kicked in and she went on about how her parents were proud of her, and so on. She knew her parents were proud, and she often thought that they must have felt relieved that she was out doing her own thing, and not sulking around, and bemoaning the fact that she hadn’t inherited the family business. She had never asked them about that, she just thought they must feel that way.
She worried about that pause though -- what if her parents saw this? What if they thought she was pausing because she thought they weren’t proud? What if they weren’t proud? She almost missed the next question which was about a family of her own, and how that might impact her.
Angela did like children, but the idea of them seemed so far in the future -- so she rattled off something about her brothers having lots of kids, so she’d have lots of nieces and nephews, and then realized that she might be putting some pressure on her siblings. After all she knew her parents were putting pressure on them to have kids. And at the same time they weren’t bothering Angela about that at all. She had never thought about that before now...
Feeling a bit annoyed, she was glad the questions moved away from family and she finished up interview without any other pauses, or thoughts about her parents. After the interview as she was walking down the hall to her quarters, turning things over in her and she decided -- her parents were proud. And if they weren’t screw it. She had work to do on the fire suppression team, making sure no figures broke out. She didn’t have time to start developing some sort of issue in regards to her parents.
(Even so, she was going to have to contact her brothers and apologize in advance for telling the cameras that she wanted them to have kids. Lots of them. Last thing they needed was pressure from their parents and their baby sister.)
