Giotto strolled through the further recesses of engineering. He had heard the rumors for a week or two, but with everyone still discussing the bowling tournament (or planning whatever wild party was undoubtedly in the works for Chekov's 18th) now was a good time to poke around himself. The design was what he'd expect from engineers - neat and efficient, with just enough camouflage that the untrained eye would miss it or a layman might at least be persuaded (with enough handwaving and technical terms thrown about) that it was really something else entirely.
However, when it came to stills, Sam wasn't a layman. He'd found them on most of the ships he'd been on and in stunning variety. The chemists tended to build Alembics and try to pass them off as legitimate lab equipment (some of the med labs went that route too), although reflux column stills were also popular. Coffey stills seemed to be favored by physicists, who tried to hide them in coils of glowing tubing as though they were really some sort of experimental generator. Bucket stills were easy and the approach usually favored in Ops. Any number of other variations and innovations had been known to turn up as well. Giotto's favorite to date was the cook who had converted a pressure cooker (with a little tinkering, that design had eventually produced a passable gin). He bent down to get a better look at this one.
