"I'm replicator free," Fred announced as she came back out and went over to John. She pulled him into her arms and held him for a few moments. They didn't say anything out loud, but Caitlin was sure they were communicating in other ways.
Once she was finished with her scan, Caitlin was about to call down to the daycare and tell Aislin she was going to be late and to go ahead and feed Charlie when she heard her father's voice. Looking at Carson, Caitlin slipped off the table and hurried to the scanner room with everyone following her.
"What's going on? What happened?" she asked.
"Oh my god," Rodney said as he stared at the scanner screen. "He's been infected with nanites."
Caitlin looked at Rodney and then at the screen. When she saw all the nanites in her father's body, she felt her world start to spin out of control. All she could think about was when several people were infected with the nanovirus during their first year in the city. She could still remember watching some of them die. "No," she whispered as she reached out to touch her dad.
"Don't," Rodney said as he grabbed Caitlin's hand. "If you touch him, you can get infect, too."
"Get him into isolation," Sam ordered with a worried look. "And everyone that touched him since we came into the infirmary needs to be scanned."
"Yes, ma'am," Jennifer said before she tapped her headset and called for the hazard team.
Caitlin stepped forward but before she could get any closer, Rodney had grabbed her around the waist and pulled her back. "Rodney! Let go. I need to make sure he's all right," she cried.
Jack looked at his daughter and took a deep breath. "I'll be fine, Katie. I promise. Just a few nanites, right," he said, trying hard to give her a reassuring smile. He then looked at Rodney before looking at his daughter again. "Rodney's going to take you out of here. Don't worry."
Rodney started to gently tug Caitlin out of the room but when she started to cry and resist, he sighed and wrapped his arms around her waist and picked her up. Once they were outside of the room, she squirmed free. "Cait..." he said.
"Get away from me! My Dad needs me!" she cried before she went toward the room again. This time it was Daniel who caught her and kept her from going in. With a frustrated cry, Caitlin kicked at the door of the room before leaning again the wall. She buried her face and started to cry. She couldn't lose her father.
