When Fred mentioned turning her father's hair prematurely grey with her curiosity, John started laughing again. "That's why I've gone grey in the future, isn't it? Three curious kids and a huge ancient city filled with technology."
He took another bite of his sandwich as Fred explained the umbilical cord to Alex, watching as their daughter checked her out before pulling his shirt up to look at his. At her apparent revulsion over the hair on his torso, he shook his head in amusement. "I'm not as bad as some other men," he said while Alex pulled his shirt back down again.
Despite everything that had happened, John decided that the day had been a good one as his wife cuddled up next to him. He took the pudding from her and started to eat it.
"It would be nice," he agreed. "But how about we promise to do this at least once a month."
"Dada, no more!" Alex said, holding up her cup.
"I see," he told her. Kissing Fred's temple, he moved forward onto his knees and picked Alex up after removing her bib. "Why don't we go out into the water and clean you up a bit."
"Yay!"
Chuckling, John carried her down to the shore, and after rolling his pants legs up a bit, he waded out into the water with, using some to clean her face. Once he was done, she started splashing water at him, and soon, they were playing together, John not caring that he was getting soaked.
