John continued to hold Fred close, letting her sooth him after everything that had happened. Watching the other Fred walk away had struck something deep inside him and knowing that his own wife and child were there with him and would be for a long time helped ease his mind.
When they broke apart, he looked over at Rodney and Jeannie with a smile before glancing over at Tim, who was smiling as he watched his wife and brother-in-law. "Hey, Tim. Good job," he called over to him.
Tim turned his head and seemed to flush a bit in embarrassment. "Thanks. It was really Jeannie and Rodney, though. And Sam."
"Tim..." Rodney said, walking over to him and taking his hand. "You did a good job."
As the brothers-in-law shook hands, John felt Alex's tug on his pants and looked down at her, grinning as Fred explained what she wanted. Leaning down, he picked her up. "I'm all for it. If Colonel Carter is fine with me taking the rest of the day off."
Sam put up her hands and made a shooing motion. "Go. You deserve it. Actually, I think we all deserve it."
"Well, then," he said, walking out of the lab with Fred and Alex. "Once I change, we can go pick up something from the dining hall and then head out in the jumper."
