John watched as Fred and Carson spoke, glad that someone like the doctor would be watching over them. He knew he would keep his word and never leave them alone. Glancing over, he saw Sam smiling sadly as she watched them as well.
When Rodney returned with the woman John recognized as one of the Marine officers, he nodded when Sam said they should get them through the Gate. Soon, the wormhole was active, and Fred was stepping toward it before stopping and turning back to him.
"Always, Fred," he told her, returning her smile. "Have a good life. And remember that I--he--we love you."
Once she was gone with Carson and Lieutenant Murdoch, he took a deep breath. He looked over to Ronon, who was staring at the now shutdown Gate, wondering if he was thinking about what might have happened to the alternate version of his wife.
"Ronon, I'm sure Jennifer--."
"She's fine," he told him, looking over at him. "Carson told me earlier. She and the me from this universe got back to Earth. We're the ones that warned Stargate Command."
John nodded. "Good."
"I hate to break this up, but we should get out of here before we overstay our welcome," Rodney said. "I'm not sure if Tim's idea is going to be able to hold the bridge open indefinitely."
"Oh, come off it, Rodney," Sam chastised as they headed for the lab. "You know it will."
Rodney just made a noncommittal grunt. Once they got back to the lab, they found the bridge was indeed still open. After they grabbed the machine, they hurried through, a bright light flashing.
The moment John could see again, he looked around, seeing Fred standing nearby. Without any thought to the fact that other people were there, he walked over to her and pulled her close, kissing her deeply.
